Why does a uy say he doesn't want to get too connected after 4 months of dating and spending so much time together?

Whilst it might be just that- that he doesn't want to get close to someone if it doesn't work else. Why else would someone say that?
I'm having a sexual relationship with the guy and I don't know what else he is expecting from dating. It's a given that two people will highly likely connect when there is intimacy and everything else. Confused

If it’s been 4 months of dating, and the place he’s at is ‘not wanting to get too connected’, unfortunately I don’t not foresee him changing his mind because now he is comfortable. There’s nothing wrong with having sex early in, but by doing so you have to consider the fact that in his mind, you’re giving him a huge perk of being your boyfriend without having to commit. In fact he’s getting several perks, because he gets your body, time, attention, and all those things you reserve for a boyfriend, without having to invest in a relationship. At this point I’d say as yourself what you genuinely want out of spending so much time with a man, and if it’s a relationship, then stop telling yourself you are ok with just sex, drop this guy, and wait for someone who lives up to your standards rather than making excuses for this man in the hopes that it will all play out.
