When a guy says he’s not ready for a relationship and is still attached to his ex?

This guy started flirting with me since we met.. he straight out protected me even in our friend group and even changed nicknames for me and him together once in the group. He also called me once late night cause I slept early and he was “worried” about me cause he didn’t contact me. He also texted me goodmorning texts every morning and we used to vid call each other every night. He also surprised me on my birthday with a bouquet and showed me all the signs he liked me and even all his friends were shipping me with him. But now recently, he told me he didn’t mean to mislead me with all the flirtations and he’s not ready for a relationship and it freaks him out whenever he thinks of a serious relationship and that he’s still attached to his ex. What should I do?

The guy crearly has things to sort out, let him do that.
Do you like him back? Wheter the answer is yes or no, at least as a friend you should ask him why does he freaks out thinking about a "relantionship". You could with simple a caring conversation assist him on analyzing stuff.
For instance for a time i was really scared and bothered with beeing with someone else after i brokeup with my ex for many things. One beeing replicating jelous habits that i got acustumed from her and just seemed to naturally think of later, that haunted me for a fairly long time and i got it out of me, but was very unpleasent to have those very annoying habits and acctitudes that you hated about your previously relationship.

Whenever a guy says that, take him at his word. He’s either not wanting a relationship because he’s still waiting out for his ex, or he doesn’t want a relationship with you specifically, but giving it as an excuse. Believe me, if a guy or girl really wants to be with someone they won’t give lame excuses as to why they can’t be with them. Sorry girl. Find someone else would be my advice.
