Why did he want to have sex?

My boyfriend and I broke up. We were always fighting and miserable, even though there was chemistry between us at times. It was pretty much mutual. After a big fight, we decided it was over. He came by a few days later to gather some stuff he had at my apartment. We talked for a while and apologized to each other for everything that had happened. Then he asked if we could have sex one last time. I didn’t really know what to say but I let it happen. It was awkward and not romantic at all. It was basically him getting a quickie. Afterwards he left and I haven’t heard from him since. Why did he want that from me? Two days prior, he was screaming at me telling me he hated being around me. I don’t even know why I did it.
