Why did he come back?

I went on 6 dates with this guy and really liked him. We then had a chat and he said he wasn’t looking for something serious atm and I said I was, so I ended it with him. And after only 3 days of not talking he’s suddenly texting me and putting more effort in. Why is he doing this if he doesn’t want anything serious?

I think of multiple possible reasons:
1) He played hard to get, thinking that this would make you get closer to him, then realized he failed and came back.
2) He was honest, but then he realized he doesn't have many chances with other girls he is talking with, or maybe was rejected by his first choices, and decided to try with you anyway, regardless from what you want, just to get what he wants.
3) He wanted to slow you down to make sure he isn't trapped into any rushed path, but then you given him the space indeed and he is now trying to fish you back because he actually wanted you but is afraid of commitment.
4) He thought you didn't look for anything serious yet and he didn't want to look pushy, so he tried to look casual and detached but in fact he was much more interested than that.
5) He was honest and he wasn't "so" interested, but then you blasted him with your determination in going for your path (and it's not that common!) and he sees you now like a challenge. Maybe he expected to be chased, but you won the game unintentionally.

Sounds like he's clearly interested in you and intrigued enough to keep spending time with you to see where the relationship might go.

Buuut the fact y'all have established you have different expectations going in, makes it kinda tricky. Could end up being a waste of your time... but also people can obviously change. Seems like you could continue to give things a chance with this guy, while being somewhat guarded and not letting yourself get your hopes up too much, too soon.
