Why didn't he come back this time?

I dated my ex for four months before he decided to end the relationship for many reasons. We were in no contact for at least 3 months before he came back. The whole three months I didn't contact him at all, he either but he was the first to crack. It wasn't to be together but it felt like we were back together. He even asked me if I missed him and what things did I miss about us. We were "cool" for five months but he got into a relationship with another girl. This time he tells me that what we had was officially over and that she was his dream girl. I believe he was already seeing this girl before he actually told me but was waiting on something.

I told him if things didn't work out with the girl not to come back or unblock my number. I didn't hear from him for some weeks. I never delete texts from my phone and by mistake texted his number but also discovered that I wasn't blocked anymore. He calls and I answer and right then told him it was a mistake. Instead of him hanging up, he tries to have a conversation with me but changed the subject a couple of times to me coming over to his house. He doesn't mentioned the girl at all or their relationship (although I got the feeling they weren't together anymore) unlike how he bragged about her before he blocked me. So I asked did he miss me and he said no that would never happened. There were some other terrible stuff said about me but despite all of it... was making attempts to get me to come to his house. He told me he was going to leave me unblocked but wasn't going to call me because he has no need to. But later that night called me anyway.

Why didn't he come back this time?
