An ex boyfriend of mine blocks and unblocks me repeatedly. He doesn't initiate anything, just blocks then unblocks, blocks then unblocks, repeatedly...

Why would a guy do this?

I've done that before, mainly frustration, wanting to get you out of my life so I block you, then when I feel less frustrated about you like I'm "neutral" and "okay" in terms of what I think of you, I remove the block until I get frustrated again

Ohhh this one's a simple easy to answer question, it's because we have egos, we don't want to tell you we're frustrated that'd show we care too much (I literally feel bad saying this and I don't even know the guy, sorry bro), so instead we block and unblock the girl will either think that he hates or that he's playing games or that he's just being weird af, all better than assuming that we're frustrated
