Guy tells me “as a friend”?

This guy I know, offended me by saying I looked nice but “he had seen better”

when I argued with him, he said “as a friend, you look gorgeous all the time”.

Surely you wouldn’t say that unless you were interested? What do you think?

It doesn't sound like he's interested at all, sounds to me like he sees you as a friend
