Girls, Is my boyfriend considered a wimp?

My boyfriend and I joined a wrestling/grappling class at our gym recently. He was matched up believe it or not against some middle school boy around thirteen who'd been training for more than a year. My boyfriend, 34, being in good shape and bigger and taller, I thought would win. No. He got his butt handed to him. Looking at my boyfriend I thought he'd be stronger and a better wrestler but can't hold his own against a boy of 13. I don''t mean to sound mean, but is my boyfriend just physically weak? He even had tears in his eyes after and hasn't said much since. I assume he is just embarrassed still and doesn't want to talk about it. My friend said I should break up with him because he would not be bale to protect me. However I'm still physically attracted to him.

There is a lot more to wrestling than size or weight and there are some big thirteen year olds and maybe your boyfriend is a bit smaller. Not surprising someone wrestling for their very first time would lose against someone who has bene wrestling. Same with BJJ someone small can easily beat someone larger if they have more experience. He is learning a new sport I wouldn’t be hard on him and everyone gets unlucky sometimes. At the end of the day im sure he can still beat you in a wrestling match

He had about 40lbs on the boy but the boy had more leans muscle mass probably due to his training and genetics. My boyfriend acks the training but he works out and is in good shape. I was more shocked by how he seemed to even get overpowered not just lacking skill, technique, and experience.

I mean I am no wrestler or grappler either, but I feel more confident I might could take my boyfriend wrestling, now.

Ah well then I wouldn’t call him a sissy it’s just that he lacks experience in this particular sport. In wrestling they train you to use technique to overcome strength so if you never wrestled it’s pretty easy to lose to a smaller opponent. Plus dirty moves and accidental hits to areas can happen and those tend to turn the tide pretty quickly…Haha why don’t you try wrestling him and get back to me. If he’s heavier and athletic you’d likely struggle with no experience (in a clean match)

My ex was a good wrestler and lost to smaller opponents sometimes it hair happens. Technique and skill can sometimes beat size. Yeah good technique can make it seem like they are getting overpowered when it’s more so just good holds

Though my boyfriend is in good shape and has a good body and all, he isn't really athletic. He has endurance, which is great, but lacks strength and athleticism that someone who say wrestles has, even the 13 year old, apparently. Then I guess add in skill, experience, center of gravity, natural anaerobic energy, and considering the boy is stronger than the average because of his sport, its not so surprising.
I did not wrestle my boyfriend, but I defeated him in arm-wrestling! Yes, he was trying. His face was red, but he just laughed.

Aww that sucks haha maybe try real wrestling too and see how he does since arm wrestling can he about fulcrum maybe he should hit the gym. If it makes you feel better even the strong guys lose to smaller opponents sometimes. My ex wrestled, he had abs and muscle and he was athletic he was one of the best wrestlers on his team but he lost against a smaller girl bc she hit his balls so all guys have some weakness

Ouch! I wish that was the excuse he had. But he just got outskilled and seemed overpowered by a more athletic (boy!) at a specific sport. I will need to challenge him wrestling. I do notice he lacks strength when we were working out. I mean he does like 7 pushups before stopping and lifts 25lbs dumbbells and struggles with his sit-ups. Thing is he has a nice physique; I guess that can be deceiving to what real strength is or strength needed for wrestling. My boyfriend is 5'10 and around 150lbs. That boy was like 5'3 and 115lbs. But maybe his lower weight more lean muscle...

Have you tried wrestling him yet? I mean 5’10 150 isn’t that skinny. I’d strongly encourage him to do this me and my boyfriend did it and we got so much stronger. It’s called the 100 push-up challenge and there is a program to where even if you can barely do any it works your way up. When I first started I could only do 5 push-ups and now I can do 20

Just go to “program” and just follow the program basically only 3 or 4 weeks of this and you’ll notice immediate results and best part is it takes like 15 min or less out of his day so very low commitment.

I mean to be honest my boyfriend is a lot stronger than me and beats me pretty often in wrestling but I can still beat him without much effort If I strike his dangly area so strength and athleticism aren’t everything. To be honest even if your boyfriend was the strongest guy he’d still have weaknesses like my boyfriend

It wasn't too much of a battle but I manage to beat my boyfriend in wrestling! He finally just gave up. I argued I had his shoulders down for like 10 or mor seconds. I wanted him to rematch the exceptional 13 year old who pretty much wiped the mat with him at the gym, but I don't want him to get humiliated again. I honestly think the boy is way more aggressive and athletic, not to mentioned more skilled at wrestling. I definitely overestimated my guy's strength before all of this.

I think my boyfriend could use more lean muscle mass. He isn't super skinny but not big. He runs a lot and lifts light weight. He struggles with weights as mentioned. He manage to do 10 pushups last time but not without pausing around 6 to go into a downward dog. He is really good at endurance but isn't strong and not athletic ( doesn't have much anaerobic I guess). Maybe we'll both try that pushups test. I admit I am not the best at pushups either.
