In my opinion, yes. It is immature and is ruining a relationship (friendship) that was working anyways. If he just started to date someone, you could have told him how you feel. If he didn't feel the same way, you tell him that you're going to need some time away or learn to get over it. I had a similar situation with a girl and told her I didn't feel the same way. She notified me that it was okay, but she needed a little time to get over me while I dated the other girl. A month later we were friends again and still are, and I am no longer with the other girl. I had another friend where it happened the opposite direction, the girl told him, they went on a date, and then he chose her instead. I'd this just happened in like the last 2 weeks or so, I would say it isn't too late to apologize and explain your feelings. If he is respectful and understanding, then you can save a possibly great relationship. If he is an ass, then you dodged a bullet.
