The more important question is, why do you care do much about Facebook likes? I personally don't use it like that, I don't get what all the fuss is about. You know what I give a damn about? Real life experiences. People giving you a compliment irl is so much more valuable than them liking your posts on social media, a post that will probably irrelevant in a few days anyway, before you add in a new one.

For the next time you talk to him, put the phone down and engage in an actual conversation, then maybe you will find out if he really likes you or not, instead of asking a bunch of strangers online.

Do a lunch date, something that will not lead to him trying to get you in bed.
Maybe a couple of those types of harmless get togethers, and make it known that you are not dating to get laid, but to meet someone and have a good solid relationship.
You should be able to tell after a couple of get togethers if you have anything in common, or if he comes back knowing that he isn't going to get laid anytime soon, and maybe dress down for the dates.
That might help you find out what his motivation really is.
