So this guy at church seems interested and I'm also attracted to him, but we aren't on the same page communication-wise. He mainly communicates with me non-verbally like staring and smiling big or staring at me like he's checking me out with the desire that I'll return the same type of energy, but I'm not there yet. Even though I'm attracted to him I feel like he's trying to go from 0 to 60 too fast. I shake his hand and say hi and God bless you because I'd like to meet him on a neutral level first, then a friend level, then more than friends if it goes good. However, sometimes he seems unfriendly when I say hi and I get the feeling that's because I haven't returned his energy with the non-verbal thing. He also rarely says hi first even though he says hi to everyone else. It's like he's trying to relate to me on a different level but keep me at arms length. I'm thinking he either has a significant other or that he only wants one thing. What is anyone else's take?

No, he’s not trying to keep you at arms length. He’s basically made it obvious he’s attracted to you by his looks, and he’s spoken some with you, but now he’s decided to lay back. Why risk bothering you or maybe making you feel uncomfortable? Why keep making the effort when you’ve already made it obvious? He’s hoping that maybe you approach him and show some kind of interest.
