Guy friend suddenly acting cold and distance?

Me and this guy have been friends for almost 1.5 years now. We are close and would text a lot, but now he’s acting distant by not texting me much and if i initiate a convo first, he lets the convo die fast. What’s even more weird is he uses a lot of emojis when texting, but now he stopped using them. Our texts feel very cold now and I don’t know why his attitude drastically changed. And no, he does not have a girlfriend so i don’t think it has to do anything with his love life.

Just because he doesn’t have a girlfriend doesn’t mean there’s not someone he’s talking to or interested in. It’s hard for men and women to be platonic friends, especially when it’s your sort of friendship where you’re very active in each other’s lives. In some aspects you are filling the element of having a romantic relationship because of the constant chat and having someone to confide in. Once an S/O enters the picture, the friends can no longer carry on in that way. Why? Because the person now in a relationship doesn’t need the friend in the same way anymore. Now he has someone to chat with all the time and fill the space. Not to mention she wouldn’t like a female as her man’s best friend. Sucks but it’s natural change.
