I baked food for my guy friend and his mom texted me to thank me and said that my cooking tasted really good. Why would his mom text me?

I know he shared the food with his family. But 50 minutes later, his mom texted me to say thank you and said that I’m a really good cook.

I mean his mom has my number, but is it normal for a guy’s mom to text you to thank you for giving food for his son and his family?

Yeah, that's extremely normal and it should be a lot more common than it is. You're a younger lady, so I had to rewrite my response to be a bit more sensitive to your age and life experience. There's simply no reason you would ever know this stuff. Basically, there was a time in society (before you were born) when it was super normal for mothers in particular to be the social "spokesperson" of the family; that's what was happening there. And the fact she already had your number makes things even simpler that way.

I know that this is a strange concept to wrap your mind around in today's world, but there really WAS a time when people would make an effort to show each other that they appreciated one-another. It's crazy to think that the behavior she's showing you eventually turned into the way people act now, but what you are describing is definitely a thing.
