Signs of him liking me or him just being polite?

-Even if he’s busy at work, he still wouldn’t mind talking on the phone for a bit.

-Last time we spoke, he asked me how my family even though he doesn’t know them was and he asked me which brother I’m closest to (since I have 2 brothers). He’s also mentioned he’s very close to his family that they see each other once a week

-He mentions often that he pictures me as this ambitious, positive, upbeat woman and he also believes that one day I’ll work for the UN since I studied global affairs

-He asked me about my new job and what my plans are in terms of that job (if I plan on staying for a while and then move up)

-He’s asked me a couple of times if I’d be willing to move outside of NY (he lives in FL)

The only con of this is that he doesn’t initiate conversations but he does keep the conversation going whether it’s through text or phone. What do you guys think?

Things a otherwise polite guy will do when he feels attracted to a woman:

1. He will stare at you for longer moments. Depending on his age, experience and self control he might hide it well. But women are usually good at picking up on this.

2. He will ask you lots of questions about yourself or he might try to be funny or brag. If he’s smart he will try to be fun/playful

3. He might act nervous around you. He’s worried about what you think of him. It’s really unfortunate that this turns women off but at least it’s a sign he’s interested.

4. He will ask you to hang out in some capacity. It might be just getting coffee or if he’s ambitious a more intimate setting (his house). But either way he will want to spend time alone with you.

5. He will usually initiate contact. However he’s smart and/or experienced he might be self disciplined enough to pull back. He knows women like challenge. But you met this guy virtually?

From what I read above he’s interested but not head of over heels. If he is head over heels he’s doing a good job controlling it. Smart guys know that women get turned off if they contact them too much.

Also you haven’t met him in person yet right? If that’s the case it could be anything.

He lives in another state and so it is my opinion that he isn't just being polite.

Personally, I really don't think a guy initiating conversations should be the ruler by which his desire for you is measured. Many will disagree. I personally just think the general rule doesn't fit all males. However, it sounds like you two are just friends anyway and you're wondering if he likes you.

I know many disagree but I personally think that way because many girls have tired to put me in a box and which never fits. Some people just cannot be put in the common box. It doesn't mean that it isn't a usually fitting generalization but understand it doesn't apply to all guys and every situation.

Something you can do is ask him about his future and if he wants a wife/girlfriend/kids/romance etc. He may like you but do you guys even want the same thing?

- Just remember it is better to find out the absolute truth and not the assumed truth.

A guy that likes you will initiate conversations even if the conversation comes to a dead end. He will do a u turn to make a new one. The positive thing about what you mentioned, he keeps the conversation going is a good sign. So try not to initiate a lot and let him make his move this time. But if it’s always one sided, like you’re the only one always making the effort to talk to him, I would consider slowly backing off.

It's hard to tell if he likes you or not, but if him never initiating the conversations annoys you now, it will only get worse once you are together and have bigger expectations

You can't be sure.

He sounds like an extroverted feeler type. Most likely an ENFJ type personality.

He is probably like this with everyone , however that doesn't mean he's not screening you.

If he is an ENFJ type person, the best thing to do is ask directly, "am I the type of person you would date?"

If you think you're emotionally mature enough to handle the answer without growing hurt or cold, then things won't change and you can carry on being cordial.

However if this type of idea terrifies you, you can try the indirect approach and ask for help, you could do it like so..

"[Name] I need your genuine advice. What would I need to improve on or do to be a great girlfriend to a man? And please be as brutally honest as possible, otherwise how can I learn and grow?"

Whatever he answers, follow up with...

"So Is that what I'd need to do to be your girlfriend for example?"

Whatever answer he gives, instantly change subjects. You'll catch him off guard lol and he'll genuinely be thinking about that conversation for awhile lol

It's very hard to judge cause I consider myself a very caring person and I would do that in both scenarios.

If I like a girl, either romantically or just as a friend I can be extremelly caring and act just like he does.
It's nearly impossible to know what he has in mind at this point.

Some people are nice for interests, some people are nice because they like being nice, and usually these people wish other people were are nice as them.

I could recommend you to be nice with him just as caring as he is with you, and you'll figure the rest probably shortly after.
