Why do guys refuse to believe any potential victim of sexual assault and believe the guy being accused is automatically innocent?

There's a percentage of women who believe that regret is the same thing as rape, meaning that she was willing and consenting at the time, but regretted it in the morning, or when the guy says he doesn't want a relationship, and so in her mind, it becomes rape. There have been girls who have admitted to doing this right here on GaG.

This is the exception, to be sure, but that hardly matters when a mere accusation can destroy lives. And until women are prepared to hold other women accountable when they lie, this is going to continue to be a problem.

There are also a lot of girls who knowingly put themselves at incredible risk on a regular basis - girls who go home with strangers, or who get wasted at parties, or go back to some guy's hotel room, or even go meet some random guy off the Internet to do drugs. In all of these cases, they are exposing themselves to tremendous risk, and in most cases are completely dismissive of that risk, pretending that the world is perfectly safe. And most of the time, they get away with it, which only further reinforces their indifference to the danger. Eventually, many will end up with a criminal who preys upon them - and that's absolutely wrong, of course, but these girls do nothing to protect themselves and often get drunk or high which increases their vulnerability - and criminals are going to take advantage.

Even though their stories are believed, it's harder to have sympathy when they were so flippant about the dangers they were exposing themselves to. That's terrible to say, but it's how a lot of people - even other women - are going to feel. I wish that wasn't the case, but life is not easy.

Because many put themselves into compromising situations. It's not quite the equivalent of me covering myself in steaks and then climbing into a tiger cage. Then complaining that the tiger attacked me. As I I said, it's not quite the equivalent, but it is in the same spirit. And I already hear the women complaining "we have the right to dress how we want, go where we want to go, and do what we want to do". You're right, you do! And I have the right to empty my life savings and put it out on the street if I want to, and since it's wrong to steal no one should touch that money. But you know what? There are thieves in this world and there are people that will steal given the opportunity. How many people would feel bad for me doing such an idiotic thing. It's the same thing with women that don't exercise a little common sense. I'm not excusing rapists. Rape or assault is never OK. But I don't have a lot of sympathy with someone who climbs into a tiger cage.

That's just not an accurate number. Those are only the claims reported to police and which could factually be proven false. So that 2-10% reflects a a group of women who were bold enough to report their assault to authorities, despite being able to be clearly proven wrong. It's not wrong, your source said the exact things I said. The extent to which it rebutted what I said, it never provided any evidence for the claim, because the evidence necessarily doesn't exist. It can't tell us how many false rape accusations don't get reported, because it's not possible to keep an accurate record of things that don't happen.

The problem isn't my "chauvinist mind." The facts just don't say what you're saying they say. No one disputes that it's more common to get raped than be falsely accused of rape. But that doesn't change the fact that false accusations happen often enough that people are concerned about the veracity of accusations.

"Veracity" means truth, so that would be provided by whatever evidence the victim has to support the claim that they were sexually assaulted. Maybe a rape kit, photo evidence, maybe a eye-witness. Every statistic you will ever be able to put in front of me (or I in front of you) can only talk about provably false allegations (that is, accusations where the evidence factually indicates that the accusation being made is false), because those are the only false allegations that are actually calculable. It cannot be the case that 2-10% of rape accusations are false, if it is also the case that women are more likely to report false rapes to the authorities, as your second source indicated.

Women pull the "he abused me" card out all the time, and it's a disservice to everyone around them.

It's kinda tough to prove. The false accusation statistics only reflect false accusations made to police, but women say that kind of thing among their friend groups to damage men's reputation all the time. Shit, it's even happened to me by an ex girlfriend. She was pissed that I didn't want to remain friends after our breakup, so she ran around telling people I was forcing myself on her and trying to sexually abuse her.
