Is it normal for older men to crave protecting a younger woman?

Say for example she’s in her 20s he’s in his 40s/ early 50s. Is this more of a paternal thing? Or would it also be a turn on for him?

Yes and no. It's in our DNA to feel a desire to protect women (and children). It's part of how we show our love and feel valued as men. But that has changed a lot since the advent of the "I don't need a man" attitude of modern women. It takes the wind out of our sails and removes our desire to be protective. That attitude is one of the reasons so called "strong and independent" women are undesirable to most men. No, we are not intimidated by them, they just don't appeal to us.

I'm 50 and two of my dearest friends are 34 year old single mums. I've known one since she was 9 years old and the other about 11 years.

Despite them being the same age and similar situation I look at them differently. The one I've known longer is like a little sister to me and I'll rip anyone who tries to mess with her apart. My other friend I see as a peer. I'm still protective of her, but not as hectically.

Ironically, I'm probably closer the to one I've only known 11 years
