Do men long to protect woman?

It's our job. Homo Sapiens have been on Earth for roughly 500,000-750,000 years, and the world has only been civilized and made safe enough for women to survive in it alone in any significant numbers for the last couple hundred years in cities, and only since the last 70 years or so outside of cities. That's almost twice your age, so it's "forever" to you, but really, it's a tiny moment in time compared to all of human history. All of the rest of that time, if men didn't protect women, he would lose them - to dangerous animals, to the weather, to accidents (drowning in rivers, falling off cliffs, etc.), to crime, or to kidnapping (tribes attacking other tribes to steal women).

If men didn't have a very strong, deeply-held instinct to protect women, our entire species likely would have died out. For the vast majority of human history, there were less than 1M people on the entire planet. The population didn't start expanding significantly until about 10,000 years ago, when agriculture was developed, enabling people to stay in one place all year round rather than having to migrate every spring and fall to follow the food supply.

It's easy to forget that the world we live in today bares little resemblance to pre-Industrial Revolution history, where people had to scratch out a living with no machinery and very, very few tools.

I wouldn't call it a primal desire or generalize it to all men. Personally, my desire is to help others in need in line with Christian standards. A slave of the christ has no need to fight, but as far as it depends upon me, to be peaceable with all. If I can help protect someone without violence, we'll I just consider it as something I am supposed to do. We are admonished to treat women very carefully and cherish them like family. We have a responsibility to uphold standards of right and wrong even if it is not wanted. In short I believe we all just want to be loved and to love, and the longing comes from how to do it exactly.

No I wouldn't say so. I kind of find it humorous actually, like what do women need "protection" from? And to some degree, she should be able to protect herself. I mean, if you're talking about rapists, etc, a guy isn't going to "protect" you from that. As in, if those guys are going to do it to you or "pick you", they'll get to you one way or the other in my opinion (the guy just makes it harder to do). Having said that, woman or not, I'm not going to watch something bad happen to someone if I can do something about it.

Yes and no. Is it natural, yes. It seems a lot of me resent women in some capacity and they’re upset if they have an urge to protect especially if there aren’t any strings attached, he is isn’t interested, or the woman isn’t way older or way younger. It always seems to be a conflict of interest. I don't know I’ve rarely seen it although I’ve heard they have an instinct to protect.

In a way yes, you could attribute it to a sort of primal instinct in all men. It comes from wanting to have someone and once you have them you'll do anything to keep them safe from just about anything.

It's they best quality. Sometimes this comes with control, like don't go there, don't be late etc.
It's strange how some men will hurt their partner so deeply and still be willing to give their life for her if the situation presents itself.

Unless they are personally close to me and they mean something to me, I wouldn't care.

Of course I would protect any one regardless the gender in my capacity if they are in imminent danger. But apart from that, nah...

We protect and provide for the woman that we recognize as valuable to us. Most women disqualify themselves from genuine protection because of their attitude and entitlement because of the simps.

I'd say yes it is, the gals are the ones that can create and carry the next generation the guys especially those around a pregnant gal are wanting to protect mother and child instinctively.
