What are we or am I overthinking it?

So since moving to uni I met a guy and we go out together a lot with a big group of people. On the way back from the clubs or wherever we are, he always gives me his jumper/coat because he doesn’t want me to get cold. He also makes sure to drop behind the rest of the group and just walk with me so that we can have discussions alone. In these conversations he has told me some of his deepest secrets despite only knowing each other a couple months because he “feels like he can trust me”. We have also been messaging straight back and forth for a month after he asked if he could have my number. I’m really confused where I stand with them as I really like them but I don’t know what they are thinking.

I am going to need a lot more context to the situation. I will just be guessing here. So, it could be that he has a thing for you or it could be that he views you as a friend. Let's look at it both ways.

If he has a thing for you, there are going to be other signs, like flirting. You don't mention that in any of your details. So, hard to know what other signals might be there without some more information.

I can also see him viewing you as a friend. Just because someone gives you a coat because it is cold, doesn't exactly mean they want a relationship. He may just be a gentleman and offered you his coat. As far as "secrets" go, same thing. I am sure your very close friends know things that others don't. He says he feels like he can trust you. Again, that doesn't mean he wants a relationship. You trust your friends, don't you?

You need to look at the larger picture and any details that you didn't provide here to know for sure. Also, you can do what most adults would do and talk to him about where the two of you stand.
