How intimidating are ugly men?

I read an article about this years ago where they did a study on exactly this and there is a bizarre threshold where slightly ugly people are perceived as less intimidating than attractive people until a certain point at which very ugly people are much more intimidating. As I recall the study showed participants pictures of various people in different poses and facial expressions and asked to rate how intimidating each photo was and the mild/moderately ugly people were least intimidating, while the very ugly were the most intimidating.

That's a false equivalence. Ugly men might be intimidating or not at all.
