He and I had been texting for a couple of days when an app notified me it was his bday. He asked about a program I am in and I replied that I had to drop out of it, but would tell him all about it after break (he's visiting family out of state). Then sent him a happy birthday message. I sent a sticker/gif thing and also said that I hoped that he had a great day. He ignored it completely and started asking about why I dropped the program. He never acknowledged the bday message and I was too nervous to mention it. Is it weird that he ignored it or am I over thinking?

It is kind of weird that he ignored it, but I'm also discovering that most people are HORRIBLE in terms of social skills.
But he read my other message, which was right above it. There's no way he missed it.

Two things are happening. First, you are indeed overthinking this, BUT ONLY because your boyfriend is being an overly-stereotypical guy.
He saw your birthday message. He smiled, and he appreciated it when he saw it. Guys can be inconsiderate. This is just a bad example of that. He might have forgotten. More likely, he... just didn't think it necessary to acknowledge. You know you sent it. You must know he saw it, therefore... not a big deal if he happens to forget to thank or acknowledge you for it. Like he didn't think that the acknowledgement was something you'd miss. Not saying he's right (he's not). But that's what happened. 🙂

He didn't miss it. He saw it, and appreciated it. He just felt no need to let you know that he saw it. He knows you know he saw it. Seems redundant to tell you he saw it when he knows you know he saw it. (again... I'm NOT saying he's right!)
You should have worried (that he doesn't want to do with you) if he ignored your sticker, and didn't talk about anything else.
That's not what happened.
So it's not that he doesn't want to do with you. It's that he didn't like the sticker, or finds "happy birthday"s silly coming from anyone, or from people he doesn't yet know well.
Nothing to stress over.
But if you found it in you to tell him about it, and ask why he did say nothing, it will bring openness into your early-stage relationship, as well as enable you to know more of the true him.
