Why would someone be so insecure about their money?

My dad is extremely insecure about his money/material possession, and it puzzles me. He claims he's "embarrassed" that he "only" drives a 2019 Honda Accord, while other people on the road drive Maserati and BMW. Japanese cars are reliable as hell. Nobody gives a shit that he doesn't have a Maserati. I have family members who own grocery stores. My dad says he wouldn't want to open one because he's "embarrassed" to sell things to people. I mean, why? It's just fruits and veggies. It's not like he's selling drugs. Always saying he wishes he was wearing Gucci or LV, instead of regular clothes. He's always looking up and never looking at the people who are far poorer than him.
