What would guys do when they fall for a woman in long distance?

I met a guy living in another country during the job interview process. He was an interviewer and we got along with each other through the process.

I sensed he wanted to hire me, but unfortunately, the company decided to hire another person. I was very sad when I heard about that decision from him, and he seemed sad too.

A few months later, he came to visit my country and gave me a thoughtful gift. It wasn't expensive one, but after he explained why he brought this particular and large gift for me all the way on his long business trip, I knew he put some thought into it and was thinking about me for a while.

I was touched and it made me very happy even though I didn't get an job offer from his company. He even asked if he could take a photo of me holding his gift.

I thought he liked me because he went out of his way to make me happy, but he replied to my thank-you message after three weeks, which was a bit disappointing. Also, even though he was in my country for two months, he didn't ask me out after the first catch-up. I convinced myself that he didn't really have feelings for me.

After a half year, he messaged me saying he would come visit my country again in a few months and like to catch up. I try not to overanalyze but cannot help wondering if he has feelings for me or not.

I do not think he has feelings for you. You clearly made an impression and he sounds like a wonderful gentleman, but nothing you said indicates he has feelings for you, not even the gift. I think he is just bein very nice.

That still does nothing for me. My boss used to do that with folks. It's a thing. Or, again, you guys might have connected but not in such a way as a relationship.

Understood. I think we are attracted to each other but as you said, how we are connected might not be in a romantic way because we met in the business context and we live in different countries.

He still has girls around him there. You’re fun until he finds a living body to fill that time slot. Basically, he is practicing on you for other real-time relationships. Do not get too immersed in it.

i think you're overthinking this... he has a different culture so going above and beyond may be normal for him. but he is only doing this as a friendly gesture, not a romantic gesture...

Thanks for your comment. I just felt connected to him, and I believe he felt the same way so I think it was more than a friendly gesture but may not be a romantic one. I don't really know how to describe it..

I think he IS into you, but as @guy13 observed, if he could find that great girl who would take him and lived close to his home, he would go with her. Give it a try, but do not expect anything.

Thank you for your encouragement! Totally understand that he would choose someone else living close to him. It's been a while since we saw each other last time so I will see how things have changed (not changed) on his end first.

Noted. I feel he likes me to some extent but it might be hard to grow feelings in long distance.
