Why does he keep coming back if he doesn’t want anything?

There’s this guy I’ve been seen for over a year now. We’ve been on and off and he says he doesn’t want a relationship or a Friend and that he didn’t want to start again with us and he wants to stay in contact and then a few weeks / days later he then changed his mind and then keeps coming back.

If he doesn’t want anything why would he come back or stay in contact?

Probably just lonely and doesn't have a ton of other options at the moment. Companionship can be nice, even if you don't want to be with the woman.

A lot of women won't stick around for very long if you make it clear you only want casual sex, so some guys will string along these women with little nuggets of "giving a fuck", but as soon as the sex is over they realize that they didn't like you that much, and trail off again. Get lonely, rinse and repeat.

He told you he doesn't want to be with you, so believe that. Find someone else. This guy will never come around. If he really liked you that much, he wouldn't be doing this off and on shit.
