Sure. It's a huge financial investment. Furthermore, as you age, you really begin to "feel it" in your 40s as you know that your energy, stamina, and patience all begin to change. Raising kids should involve the experiences of an old person, but requires the health of a younger person. So, if I was 40ish and I wanted to have kids, I'd want to have them soon because, otherwise, their entering college is when I need to enter retirement.

Personally, I chose not to have kids and that is one reason why I did not - there was not enough money for kids and retirement. My spendaholic wife made sure of that.

If they are older and have an existing family, the last thing they want are other children to consume time and money.
