Why would he reach out and then not reply? Why is he playing games?

So I had a casual thing with a guy. He then ignored me for a month. But the other day he messaged me asking if I was available. I didn’t reply as I was sleeping and the next day I replied and said why I didn’t reply. Then today I messaged him to let him know I’m still available and to let me know when he is free. No response. Why is he playing this game?
