Why do guys hit on me even though I wear a wedding band?

I've had male classmates try to talk to me despite the fact that i wear a wedding band on my left ring finger. I wore it strictly to prevent this from happening.

Fair enough, but the topic of this post is the wearing of the wedding ring to keep guys away. It certainly doesn't keep women away from guys who wear them (if anything it attracts them). Why would men be any different? There are plenty of men AND women who don't give one shit if their target is married or not.

I’ve always seen the wedding ring as a “keep away” sign and most of the guys that I’ve dated usually verified that was single when they didn’t notice a wedding ring. I suppose there are people who break those social rules, I just didn’t think this was standard practice.
