Guys, do you lose your cool while working on cars?

I think its required.
If gentle supplications to its machine spirit and generous application of squirrel piss doesn't result in compliance, it's well within the rules of engagement to escalate to the "percussive maintenance" level of negotiation.
In fact, it's downright primal; the logic of "use rock" is what led to society as we know it. One monkey millions of years ago with anger issues is what allows up to have anxiety disorders today.
I used to work on my own car, when things were simple. These days you need a special tool, just to do oil changes and some don't work on other models.
I usually take it to the shop to get most of the work done. I do however, work on my ATV and yes, I have had some choice words when things are not fitting back together easily. That is why I installed a blue word filtration system in my shop. It is essentially a loud fan/air exchange system. LOL
I change oil for 3 family cars... what I discovered the hard way was it's simple to work on a car if you're the only one working on it. If some azzhole at a lube shop uses power tools to strip nuts or just put things on too tight it's going to be very difficult or even impossible for you to work on it after that. Usually I do the oil myself. If I don't feel like it I've taken ONE car to a shop but I know I'm rolling the dice each time.
One funny story... had a car where the map lights & sunglass holder assembly fell out of the ceiling because the plastic tabs holding it in fell apart. Plus the sunglass holder was no longer opening/closing. figured I'd buy a new one to install in the roof. They wanted $450 just for the part. Insanity. I ended up disassembling it, putting it back together (major pain cause it had a bunch of complicated gears and spring crap) had to do it 4-5 times to get it right. It turned out I was able to re-attach this thing with ONE 5 cent screw.
@hahahmm I bough a new truck and the dealership gave free oil changes for the first 3 years. Last fall I was going to do an oil change and I could not get the oil filter off. I have a strap wrench but could not get in into the tight engine compartment and trying to get it off by hand was impossible. I went and bought an oil filter wrench that works with a socket wrench. I put so much torque on it the wrench bent. I took it back to the dealership and got the oil changed but told them that I wanted tohe filter put on finger tight. If they were going the have a problem with figuring out what finger tight ment they can come out to the waiting room and I will put the filter on myself. I guess I will find out in a couple of months if they did it right. This is why I always do my own oil changes.
@exitseven Yup. Not only that but one time the idiots at an oil change place put the drain plug on too tight (this was right around the time I started doing my own changes). No auto shop would touch it with a 10 foot pole when I asked for someone to loosen it up. Only the dealership would. Think the other shops were afraid if they damaged the pan they would be liable or something. I would have had to drill it out and replace the pan if the dealership refused.
Nope. I've never been someone to express their anger like that.
No. She is my queen. Whenever I work on her, I try to be as cool headed and careful as possible.
Things like tyre pressure, coolant, air filter, wiper water, oil check, dash cam storage, infotainment system, AC, battery, headlamps health, among other things.
I am really careful with all these.
Agreed, I don't wash my queen often. She collects dust when she is standing for 10 days straight. But she is in top shape whenever required.
What kind of car?
@Friendlybro79 Family cars actually. One is a small one. Suzuki Alto. And the other one is a compact SUV. Hyundai Creta.
No, but I really do not work on cars anymore. I used to do tuneups, brake jobs, and install new alternators or water pumps. Cars have computer processors amd the enging compartments are so crowded that I don't even want to deal with it anymore.
I could never find the right size fucking wrench, and when I did the fucking bolt was rusted on and the fucking wrench slipped off of the bold and I busted my fucking knuckle on the god damn frame... and then
I don't because I am clueless. :) I can do some VERY basic things like wash it and change a tire and a fuse. Very basic. I am capable of turning it on. Otherwise, I pay for fixes. And thus don't lose my cool.
All depends if you catch you hand somewhere and it hurts lol…. Hope that helps you out …
But why a random question…?
Inanimate objects trigger my frustration more frequently than i care to admit.
It's considered Masculine, around Cars Guns and Drugs/Alcohol, men naturally will speak roughly and Cursing
I don’t work on cars because I’m so bad at it… like it just doesn’t make sense to me.
I know my limitations and tend to leave it to the pros
I'm the rarity that knows very little of cars and doesn't care about them.
But if I did. I would not lose my cool on cars. Because if I was working in something I'd make sure I knew what I was doing so it came out perfectly.
Sounds great in theory, until you start dealing with rusted bolts, parts that don’t fit right, mystery problems, etc
Everything is fine until you drop your 10mm socket in the engine bay, but don't heat it hit the floor.
@ShiftingMonke Or down the intake manifold. Did that once 😬
@Redstang88 oof. I had a girl working in the garage who we nicknamed Fumbles because she would constantly lose wing nuts down carbs.
That dreaded "tink tink" is somehow the loudest sound you'll ever hear. 😂😂
I'am a mechanic and i would say im pretty calm compared to everyone else in my shop, but yes i do lose my cool at times. It's just annoying when certain things happen because a quick 30 minute job could turn into a 3 hours job. I work at a dealership and everything is "speed" and when things dont go right people get mad easy. I do try my best to keep calm.
if a guy says no: he doesn't work on his own car.
I’ve thrown a few tools over the years 🤷♂️
In my case it's a motorbike instead of a car.
I tend to speak softly to my bike to keep it in a good mood :)
No, I LOVE my car! But I have a very good one, so not many problems.
Funny but no I don't. There is no point getting in getting upset at inanimate objects.
in the days when i used to work on them, it's been known to happen.
Nah. My dad would make comments like that when he worked on them, though.
I'm not a car guy. I don't know anything about working on them. Is that ok?
If I do, I don’t resort to profanity.
I am more eloquent in my frustration.
LMAO... sometimes
I don't work on cars...
Not at all it's kinda peaceful to be honest
Give me a f@cking brake
