What does it mean if a guy stands close to you and ask “how are you” ?

It could mean a variety of things. It could mean that he is genuinely interested in how you are doing, or it could mean that he is trying to start a conversation. It could also mean that he is trying to flirt with you. It is impossible to tell without more context.

Why are you questioning his proximity? It’s weird that this is even a question. He’s interested in some way, shape or form. You figure out his intentions by having a conversation and asking questions and then you make a decision.
