Why did my older coworker keep saying this over and over?

He was saying ‘I did such and such for you’ (it’s a basic part of his job and it wasn’t specifically for me, he’s just adding that part in to be dramatic) and I would say ‘thank you’ and then he would repeat himself. And after every response of mine he kept saying the same thing. I’m like ok weirdo in my head.

I could tel he was playing cause he laughed after but I don’t get why he was doing it other than he wanted to let off steam.

so what exactly did he do for you that calls for you to thank him repeatedly, it's one thing to show appreciation gratitude and say thank you it's another to constantly be reminded of that every 5 minutes and another to not show any gratitude appreciation or say thank you at all to the person that helped you out

yes which was why i was asking what did he do where he merits constant thank yous. i read he did his job but what about his job did he do? i should of rephrased that better my bad

Bad didn’t need to be thanked. He also didn’t need to tell me he did his job. I was in lunch break when he came up to me to tell me.

so are you his boss or supervisor or just his coworker? if you're just his coworker then there's no real need to thank him. i guess same can be said if you were his supervisor or manager

i get he's looking for some bit of appreciation on the job but to constantly ask to be thanked is uncalled for

He’s a coworker from a totally different department. I was just saying thanks because I’m a nice person and he was making it awkward. I don't know what to say.

I did not know what he wanted me to say. Maybe he wanted me to tell a joke back or something.

yeah just ignore him. thanking him once is enough but no need to go overboard like he expects. and if he tries to do any weird jokes or make weird conversations just tell him you have to get back to work try to brush him off as much as possible if he makes you feel uncomfortable
