I knew a physician once that had a conversation with a patient about this while I was in the room. The patient insinuated the doctor was less of a man because he took his car in to the mechanic that week.
This particular doctor had more years of experience as an intensivist in an ICU then I've been alive. He just laughed a bit then walked out.
Point is, people specialize in different areas. Not everyone needs to know how to fix a car, and you're not less of anything if you don't know how to.
Well I think it says more about the kind of man you are because most men are fully capable of doing almost any repairs that a vehicle needs
Just like how most people are fully capable of doing their taxes they just choose to pay someone else to
It’s a microcosm of larger problems
I've run into oil filters like that before. Maybe not so bad it took 4 hours, but some are a total pain in the ass. Even though I have various specialty tools for it, I've had to do the "stab with a screwdriver" method before.
But no, I don't feel cucked for taking a car to a mechanic. I can do anything on a car. But sometimes it's just easier to have a mechanic do it. The last time I paid a mechanic was to remove a seriously stuck exhaust manifold-to-cat bolt. It was frozen solid and I knew an acetylene torch was the easiest way to do it. I also knew the danger of breaking a stud off in the manifold - not fun at all. So I let an exhaust specialist with far more experience than me do it.
I realize how ridiculous this is but I love my truck and stuff like the electrical and wiring I have to take it to a specialist because I have no clue what I’m doing
I just don’t like other people touching my truck maybe it’s just me I don't know 😅
I don't mind someone else working on my car. To be honest, I don't like working on them any more. I just do it to save tons of money. If I was a billionaire I sure as hell wouldn't be working on my own car. But then I've probably put in a few thousand hours working on cars in my life, so I guess I paid the dues. I bought and sold cars, so working on them was almost a full time thing, like several hours a day.
Exactly if you were my age you would want to work on it yourself right? It saves a ton of money but I get it I mean I hurt knees awhile back and I could barely stand in situations like that I have to take it to a mechanic
But young guy should at least be able to do basic maintenance
I think it should be a requirement for graduation from high school. It's not just about knowing how to work on a car. It's about critical thinking, understanding how things work, and confidence.
Schools don’t want us to know stuff like that they want us to know how to tell the height of a tree by the shadow it casts
I don’t live in the woods CUT THAT SHIT DOWN!
No, well I say vehicle
It was a pair of alloy wheels I tried everything to get the tyres off to no avail
I went to a mechanic paid £10 and 10 minutes later, I had 30kilos of scrapable aluminium, no tyres to dispose of and made £8 profit
Always remember free money is free money

Nope. I pay professionals to do jobs I am not qualified for so that I can focus on making money doing what I do.
But why! You will save so much money doing it yourself and I don’t even know you but I’m certain you’re fully capable of doing it yourself
What? That’s ridiculous
Yes it is, but don’t forget I love my truck
