Friend said he was interested in me, then started dating someone right after?

He's one of my closest friends, we've been friends for several years now. 2 months ago, we were drinking and I told him I love him a lot. He replied "I've had a crush on you for a long time" which shocked me and I froze. I didn't expect him to say that and I had no idea. Then, one month later, he started dating someone else. Is this my fault because I waited for him to tell me again when we were sober or do you think he was faking interest in me and it wasn't really real?

She was either already in the picture and they had a more serious bond than you and him, or he told you he had a crush as some kind of consolation prize to match your energy and not leave you hanging. I’m sure it’s super hurtful and I’m sorry for your grief, But dwelling on the situation and questioning everything will only drag you down. So accept the situation and start healing. If you have other close friends or even family you’re right with, then lean on them at this time but ultimately just surround yourself with love. This too shall pass.
