Why do only guys I don't want hit on me?

Men look at me a lot but only the ones that I don't want actually talk to me or want something from me while the guys who I like never open their mouth. A guy I had a crush on once told my friends (never me) that I would be "way too pretty" for him and then he never talked to me until 6 months later asking me if I really did like him back then.
