It depends. Some chicks do it because they think they're making some kind of manipulative play.

Don't get me wrong, other times not.

If she was thinking about me and wanted to connect for a few minutes to say hi, I appreciate that and will be here for it to the extent I can without being disrespectful to the people around me (ie, I got another girlfriend)

If she's just trying to make me feel like shit by giving me a call and being neither here nor there throwing in very underhanded, sly comments. I'm going to do it back to you, do it far more effectively and I'm not going to call her on her birthday.

If someone is important to me and I still hold respect for them I would obviously send a text wishing them a happy birthday but I wouldn’t call. If they choose to respond then that’s fine- BUT- it is never an opening to try build a relationship again. They were my partner at some stage- they were apart of your life. If they didn’t respond then that’s ok too- my text wouldn’t have an ulterior motive.

If I dumped her it was because it was not working and I would have eventually made he miserable because I was unhappy. It would be nice if she did so with no expectations of a reunion.
