1 yIt is the thought that counts however WTF am I going to do with flowers?
On one hand I could start fake sneezing & feed her a line of bullshit telling her I’m allergic to flowers & she should keep them. On the other hand I could thank her for the flowers & ask her if she wants o get luck tonight. Tough choices…10 Reply

Frankly I’d rather get anything than flowers. Great. A plant that I have to water and that will wither and die.
At least I can eat a cheeseburger...
And I garden and like flowers. LOL
But my reaction would still be:
“Uh... thanks... I guess? 🤷♂️“
It’s more the kind of thing for a spontaneous gift than one for an actual event like a birthday.
”Hey I got you some flowers, I thought they may brighten up your room and help you think about me.” 😉
THAT is how you do it and WHAT you SAY. But not for a birthday. No man wants flowers for a birthday.

1 yFlowers are a complete waste of money. It would be nice to get anything from a woman. But giving flowers is the same thing as paying for a birthday card and putting money in it. People take the money out, and throw away the card. They rarely even look at the card. You hand me flowers, they are really just getting tossed in the garbage. There is just a few days delay in doing it.

1 yWell, I'm not much into getting flowers but, when Juley gave me some on my b-day, I thought it was really sweet of her and I tried to keep alive as long as possible.
00 Reply I would say thank you and attempt them but in my head be like "why" I would also take care of them it was still a gift it be rude to just let them die.

1 ythat's super weird. i mean unless you are talking about a guy that you know has a thing for flowers. i wouldn't want flowers. not from a friend and not from a romantic interest. if you'd gift me flowers, i'd just be weirded out.

1 yAs she's a friend, she knows my preferences.
So I'd see the joke behind it, and pretend to feel pleased :)
After all - the quality of a present lies in its intention.

There’s no need to use offensive slurs.
- 1 y
@thatshydork it's not really meant to be offensive. It's more like wtf is this. That's how guys are
- 1 y
But when you use slurs, it doesn’t matter how it’s meant to be. It’s still oppressive and very mean. Just because that’s how a lot of guys act doesn’t make it ok.
- 1 y
@thatshydork okay, can you tell me how a slur used in a joking manner towards a friend is oppressive?
- 1 y
The word itself is oppressive, so unless the slur is used by someone who identifies with the people it’s used to put someone down, any use of it is oppressive. Like if a ‘friend’ of mine called me a Jap, that would be oppressive no matter how they meant it. Or if I called someone that word that you used, that would be oppressive because I’m not in the LGBTQ community, but it could still hurt the people around me or further peoples beliefs in thinking it’s ok when it’s not. I grew up with white people who would take it to the extreme and say the n word and call my friend who is black the n word all the time because it was used so often in casual conversation that they thought it was ok for them to say when it wasn’t. The same thing goes for any slur. The more casually it’s used, the more people will think it’s ok to spit those words at people, the more the oppression continues.
- 1 y
*to put down, not to put someone down. Sorry, made a mistake.
- 1 y
@thatshydork I disagree with you on the basis of this being oppressive. The word in it of itself is not oppressive. Offensive? Probably depending on the person but it is not oppressive in almost any context.
Would calling you a Jap be rude or offensive? Yes, am I activity oppressing you with a word? Absolutely not. It's the same with the N word. These words alone are not causing "prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control" nor are they "inflicting hardship and constraint". If someone called me (a first generation American) a spic they are not oppressing me they're trying to offend me - 1 y
But given that the words have a past with oppression, using them is still oppression. Disagree with me all you want, but almost everyone I know considers slurs oppression no matter the context, their political stance, or their relationship to the word, even if it’s only a small level of it. There’s a reason they’re not considered swears but slurs instead. Swears are considered rude in polite company yet generally not offensive or oppressive to most people. However, slurs are no matter the context. Slurs often correlate to unjust treatment and therefore are considered oppressive. Because slurs often have a long and unfortunate history with oppression, the use of such slurs is oppression too. Slurs cut deep and demean people, making them oppressive.
- 1 y
Also, slurs are considered hate speech even by the UN, and hate speech is considered oppressive speech meaning slurs are considered to be oppressive.
- 1 y
@thatshydork it seems to me that you have not shown any link to the definition of oppression or oppressive to a slur. You are taking offensive and automatically linking it to oppressive. I'm Hispanic first generation, do I know what a Spic is? Yes, is it offensive? Not that I personally care but maybe. How is it oppressing me though? How is a words use even when out of context to a friend that's not part of said group prolonged cruel treatment? A better question is how is it magically okay if I use the word because I'm part of that group how does it become okay? That makes literally no sense. Why does black culture call themselves the N word more than anyone else if the word naturally oppresses them?
You are taking definitions and changing them into a specific little bottle. I do not care what everyone you know thinks when the basis of the argument is a fallacy itself. A slur literally means a derogatory insult, that is not oppression.
Oppression is slavery, which takes place in Africa and the middle east to this day. It is China controlling free speech. It is North Korea controlling everything their citizens can say and do in public. It is when you are persecuted solely because of your race, demographic or religion. It is not a simple word or slur... - 1 y
@thatshydork the UN is one of the most laughable pathetic virtue signaling groups to ever exist. When the head of the UN troops in Rwanda pleaded for military assistance to restore order and prevent a genocide he was told to stay where he was and do nothing.
The UN is useless, they are a far left organization. The exact people that jailed JK Rowling for hate speech even though the first Minister had the most complaints for hate speech against whites.
I tried to not get political but you citing the UN as a non bias legitimate source is laughable at a minimum - 1 y
So just because oppression was much worse in the past means it doesn’t exist now?
- 1 y
You’ve never studied Social Science, have you?
- 1 y
But see, I’ve provided actual sources, while you’re just providing opinion. The UN website is a government run website meaning it is ideally (not saying it is entirely but government run websites are the closest to truth you’ll find on the internet) the most trustworthy source out there. You might disagree with that and that’s fine, but it’s simply the truth.
