Why do men Flirt with you once and then back off?

I noticed that some men would purposely give me Long Stares or invade my Space and later Act very Distant and Professional with me like Nothing ever happened. Why do they do this? Did These men try to gauge my interest in an affair? (All of them are married)

Changed their minds. Or because you did not respond in an accepting way they decided not to risk being accused of sexual harassment and moved on. In the old days guys would just ask a woman out point blank or tell her he wanted her at some point.
