Why would a guy tell you a story about his friend asking about his ex-wife?

He (Let’s call him Tim) was saying about how he has no animosity toward his ex wife anymore and how they get along better now. And that at one event she was there with her new fiancé and he had they crazy wide pants on and big gauges in his ears and Tim’s friend said to Tim, “You must be pretty bad in the sack for her to trade for that.” (Let me be clear, I’m not judging the appearance. I included it because the friend was judge mental of it and was saying how Tim was much better looking.) Tim said he laughed but wanted to punch him. What do you even say to that? And why would you tell that story? Like, dude, I’m not part of this one.
