Why would a guy talk to his ex behind a woman's back while they're also talking?

If a guy is talking to his ex who is also his first love that apparently he hated because she cheated why would he still talk to her and keep up with her social media while talking to another woman especially over a year that he claims to like and want to be with? Plus still treating the ex badly even if it seems like he wants her back. What's the deal?

Sometimes for some people even if they got cheated on they'll still care about that person. Even if they say they hate them.

Let's say she never cheated on him. I bet my ass cheek they would still be together. What it sounds like he still has feelings for her and is just having trouble moving on. The reason is because his ass still talks to her. So if she was his first love, I mean she's STILL the same girl. Just he got cheated on and his feelings for her is clouding his judgment to make the right decision

Like he knows he shouldn't be with her cause what she did which is why he talks to other girls. And the other girl he said he likes and wants to be with. He could 100 percent be telling the truth. He could having feelings for her and want to be with her. But if he had that choice of between the new girl and the girl who cheated on him, prior to her cheating. He'd choose his ex. Could be nothing wrong with the new girl its just he's not ready to move on. Whether or not he's aware of it. Until he stops talking to the ex and never sees her again. He won't move on. Even if he gets in a relationship. There's a high chance of him cheating with herm or at the very least be in that relationship and not be 100% committed
