Dude sounds jealous you found someone. I bet he was hoping to be the guy in your life and then when he finds out he isn't and you like someone else he threw a tantrum like a little kid would. Doesn't sound like much of a friend if you ask me. What sort of jerk gives up on a friendship because you like someone unless his intention was to never just be friends with you? Might have avoided something worse down the road really.
