This guy talked to me about the times he's cried, does this show that he's comfortable around me? Or is he alright with discussing this topic with anyone?
1.1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I voted for the third option.
There are times when crying is appropriate. I'm a human, not an automaton.
I'm not talking about wailing and blubbering in front of people. But if I guy never shows emotion, he is either insensitive or very repressed/inhibited.
I bawled my eyes out when my mom died.
My chin quivered and my voice cracked when I delivered the eulogy for my dad's funeral.
I've cried really hard when pets died.
After a woman I loved with all my heart and I separated, it felt like my guts had been kicked out to the point of feeling nauseous at times. It's the worst pain I ever experienced. When alone, I would sometimes be overcome, double over in pain, and bawl.
I can mist up when I witness grief or poignant acts of kindness in real life.
I can mist up at certain movie scenes that involve love and death, loss or suffering.
If I'm in the right mood, certain beautiful music can have that effect.
I'm an artist and a romantic.
Instead of stuffing my feelings, I embrace them. I just keep them under control when I am around others. I don't mind them seeing my emotions, but I don't break down because it is true that men, in particular, are supposed to be strong and have control of themselves.
I don't have to suppress my emotions around my wife, though.20 Reply

+1 yIt is and we only talk about it to people who we trust. But the question is, how many people can we even trust tho? We've grown up being humiliated when it comes to it. Despite all their hard work and no appreciation, if they show feelings just once, it's all shame. That's once cause and what lots of guys had been through growing up. Telling men to man up isn't exactly wrong but doing it wrong makes it wrong like how society usually do it and manning up became like a stigma for some people that they believe that's always the way people tell men to man up so that's why they think it's all toxic. But you know on contrary, another cause of men's suicide is also caused by some people who say they should open up and it's ok not to man up. It just makes men feel even more useless and that's basically telling them that they're defeated and there's nothing they can do. When a man fails at something, there's a difference between telling him "There there, it's ok to cry" and to give them any suggestions on what should work, give constructive criticism and encourage him "You can do it! You almost did it the last time!". Showing support is different from letting them open up and vent which would bring them lower like what happened to many soy boys today. Teaching men to find solution instead of being letting them emotional and appreciating them is suppose to be how you treat men. Even the his smallest achievement appreciated can encourage him to do more. That's how men should be told to man up.

Depends on the person. I'm chill talking about that stuff, but I'd say that guys in general tend to be a little more hesitant to mention it, even if they are willing to talk about the issue that resulted in them crying. But it really does depend on who's talking.

it means he hurting it meant something to him.
And in that moment he doesn't give a fuck about anything or anyone
or what he looks like if he cry's.
What ever just happen , what ever he just lost. meant the world to him.
And he feels it. And he's going to release that pain in the form of tears.
What it means is it he is comfortable with himself he doesn't care who knows that he cries he's bigger than that he could care less would anybody else thinks or feels about him feeling heart break or pain10 ReplyIt depends on the guy. Me personally, I wouldn't cry in front of a woman unless I had no interest in her sexually or we are married or practically married. Women don't like to see weakness from a man that is more than "acceptable", but acceptable is determined by how she feels so you can't be sure when it's okay or not.
In the case of the guy you are referring to everyone is different, and you'll need to ask him to know how often he cries and how often he cries in front of other people.10 Reply
+1 yFor a socialized Western male, tears & weeping are a 'relief valve'. An emotional 'vent' for extreme trauma, ... when there are no OTHER means to externalize and subconsciously emote... when violent physical expression would only make the situation WORSE. ;)

I used to serve a young Black woman who absolutely loved to have her boyfriends beat my bare bottom until I was in tears, and she often told me that watching her boyfriends make me cry was oftentimes even better than sex. Maureen loved it when he had me crawling across the room and wiggling my butt for her and her girlfriends' amusement.

+1 yexpressing our vulnerabilities usually indicates a comfort with a person so in that regard it's a good thing. he may feel comfortable with lots of people or you may be special, but i wouldn't know without knowing the guy
certainly crying is not a sign of weakness
00 Reply Honestly I don't know what crying is anymore. I went to a behavioral program where crying was a behavioral pinpoint punishable up to 24 hours in the bedroom. But yeah it's best to talk about the topic with certain people you feel comfortable around. I don't know if it's a stereotype, but men rarely crying. Women cry the most because they are the most sensitive especially certain topics. Biggest sensitive topic women cry the most in is getting their heart broken in relationships.

What kind of a behavioral program punishes people for crying? 😨😨😨😨 You can’t always help it! 🥺
1K opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. I would yes it´s sensitive because if you talk with the wrong people about it the whole neighbourhood knows. No he´s definetely not talking with everyone about crying especially if the reason was personal. He may talk with people about crying at someones grave.
Out of a hundred people I would talk at best most with 3 about the personal reasons that made me cry.

+1 yI don’t even know if I can cry.
Like people of died, and if they were really really close to me, I would get like two or three tears.
I don’t ever talk to my friends about crying and aside from close family I don’t know if there’s anyone who is aware if I have cried within the past four or five years or not.00 Reply801 opinions shared on Guy's Behavior topic. Men are not supposed to cry that’s why it’s a sensitive topic because we’re supposed to be manly. Men are only supposed to cry when there’s an actual tragedy the death of your wife, the death of your kid maybe the death of a parent or a dog Jan that men are not supposed to cry. So when we cry and actually mean something when I wanna cry, it means her being emotional it’s common for women, to cry, rare for men to cry. .

+1 yI can tell you this.
I would never cry in front of a girl I intend to have a relationship with.
Why?
Because unintentionally they will loose attraction and respect.
Some at first will be supportive and empathetic but there is something in women brain that breaks when they see a man cry and they can never go back to the illusion of "strong man" you were for them.20 ReplyI wouldn't say it's a sensitive topic, all men cry, funerals, girlfriends, when going through hell, etc. Usually when you see a man cry, you know he is been through hell.
I can freely say that right now I am crying 3 times a day because I am going through hell right now.10 Reply
+1 yNone of the choices do for me. I don't cry. Because for some reason I Can't. But when I could, I never cried with others around. It wasn't worth it. There is too much toxicity around to put myself at risk. Share your vulnerabilities with a sellect few of YOUR CHOICE. No one else has any business in that.

+1 yThis topic is reserved for only my best friend and myself, who my best buddy is also a guy and can relate on these things with me. I do not and cannot expect women to understand this from the male point of view, nor can I expect women to show ANY empathy towards the subject on it, either. So I never talk about it, let alone show my vulnerabilities snd my lowest points, with any woman I know. I've learned doing that is a mistake, snd a mistake I will never make again.

+1 yCrying is not a sensitive topic. Crying is a toxic reliever when someone cry’s it relieves toxins. I feel sorry for the so called “Toxic Masculinity” because it says that men shouldn’t cry or even better “Man Up” it’s important for a man to cry it shows that a man is a human being.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yI can admit it. But I think a lot of women (at least in my life) see it as a sign of weakness. I'm not really dating, so I don't care as much. I think it's just another sign that it's something they would not see as attractive, so I wonder how much I'm going to have to hide it and pretend to be manly, confident, and stoic at all times in front of her, and whether I could pull it off successfully or not.

+1 yWell here's my opinion on this , as a male ♂️ I believe that shedding a tear should come as natural to men as it does to women. Like seriously men shouldn't be scared to shedd a tear or show emotions - because every human being on this earth wants to belong & when it feels like your left out in life it results in hurt feelings which could result in showing emotions or shedding a tear
00 ReplyI voted for option 2. It would take me so much trust in a person before I even would think about talking about times I cry. That being said it's not possible anymore for me to cry around people even if just one person is around, my body just isn't wired to do so anymore.
00 ReplyCrying is generally showing vulnerability. Letting those around you know what you find important and some people will take advantage of that, make you do things you don't want to or give up more than you'd like for something you desperately want.
Men arn't used to people being generous when they display their emotions but on the contrary often get punished for it. That's why we tell eachother to hide our emotions.

+1 yI almost never cry. I shed one tear whe I was depressed once. I shed a few tears when I missed someone. But I just don't cry very often anymore. I don't let it out like that I guess. I just get depressed if I feel sad, but I don't cry. It doesn't make any difference really if you do or don't. Just don't cry if you know they're wrong. You shouldn't let it get to you.

+1 yI don't believe crying is a sensitive issue. It's an emotion every human being has, and we cry for two different reasons, we're either happy or we're sad.

+1 yI dont think its a sensitive topic its just something we had programmed into our 🧠 from a really young age. “Crying is for pussies” “man up” things of tht sort so sometimes its hard for a man to be in tune with his emotions
00 ReplyIt's normal to cry, if there is a reason to cry , specific place specific time, contrarary if you don't cry despite having enough reason to cry, but it depends for what you are crying, to whom you are crying.🌱

I hardly cry. But even when I do, I find it a bit difficult to tell others. Maybe it's a male ego thing for me. I don't know. You have to be really close to me if I tell you that I cried the other day.

00 ReplyI wouldn't start a relationship if it's not going to end up in marriage.
But the idea and definition of marriage itself has changed nowadays. You probably should discuss why do you or the other person want to get married, and why not?00 ReplySince society tells men that it’s not okay for them to cry, yes it can be.
