Why so intense after one date?

Turned out it was someone I knew from my past but lost contact with years ago and he looked and sounded different, so I didn’t recognise him. He told me he loves me, after one date, after we’d fallen out years ago, because we were close friends with mutual interest in each other but he’d refused to get intimate with me, when we both became too uncomfortable to continue our friendship. Why was he so intense?

Possibly desperate. Not really sure. Maybe he is at the age that he really wants to settle down with someone and has struck out. So he gets overly eager at the prospect. That is really just one guess why he might have said I love you after the first date. It could also be because you had a past relationship and he had been thinking about the missed opportunity for all that time. Really hard to say because none of us can jump inside his head to understand why he said that so soon.

He was also seeming really affectionate, saying he wanted friendship, then kissing me a lot. He was never like that when I knew him.

Well people change and possibly due to circumstances in their lives. I just wonder if the older he gets the more he is thinking his chances of meeting and settling with someone are getting lower and that is why he took an aggressive approach. Just one possibility.

I wondered too, but wasn’t sure.

Yeah, he’s handsome and rich and I’m neither beautiful nor rich.

What’s the most likely scenario?

I think it is what I originally said. He thinks he is running out of time.

Like an early midlife crisis?

No like he thinks he is running out of time to meet and settle down with someone.

He wasn't starting on the first date.
He's had those feelings inside for a long time, so it wasn't like he just met you, at least in his mind.
He probably should have kept them in check for a while, but at least you have a good idea what his feelings are towards you.

Why would a guy who loves you have refused to have been intimate with you, twice, then be really affectionate on date one?

I really don't know.
I mean it was after the 1st official date after a long time.
I still have feelings for someone from long ago, I'm still not sure why it never worked out, but if the stars ever did align and her husband and my wife passed I would get in contact with her, but I don't think I would tell her that I loved her on the first date.
I'm not living my life as to have this happen.
Strange things happen.
Maybe talk with him and let him know how you feel, and what he actually meant by that, and that it seemed a bit soon to say something like that.
