Guy's Behavior

So, he always have a topic to talk when its just me & him, maybe called "private" but when we are with our other friends, he's quite, meaning?

I knew him earlier this year, and suddenly we became "lowkey" close to each other. We hung out often by ourselves or even with friends. It's just that I'm confused why he talked to me so much and yet out in public with friends, he barely talk or make eye contact to me. I don't mind with it since we are just friends as of right now, but confused a bit lol, thanks!
