Those sort of things don't sound like he is hitting on someone. They sound like he is reassuring someone that things are going to be okay and whatever. The last thing about look at my face and try to read it... I have no idea what that means or why someone would say it. I would not over think things and he is probably just trying to be nice when he says that stuff. Did you say he is taken as in a relationship? If so that still doesn't change my opinion. You can be nice to others while dating someone.
