I don’t understand why he went quiet. He came to pick me up from work to meet me for the first time. He asked which places were open?

I Saïd most places were closed because it was late so he just dropped me off home. He said we could see each other another time. Then I messaged him ‘thanks for dropping me off home’. In the afternoon ‘Wakey Wakey’ but he didn’t reply until I said this: (and we used to talk quite a lot)

me: I haven’t heard from you since yesterday. Shall I delete your number?

him: hi sorry I was busy how are you?

me: I thought you aren’t interested. Which is fine if you aren’t.

he said: I will let you know if I am not.

me: but you didn’t say anything at all.

then I haven’t heard anything from him? Why?

Seems like you both have trouble holding a convo. But maybe we're missing context.

Here's the things:

• On your end, if all you said is "most places are closed right now" then don't follow up with alternatives or suggestions, of course he's going to assume you don't want to do anything.
• On his end, if he can't figure out how to have, initiate, or drive a conversation that's going to be dull
• On your end, if you don't converse or open up, he isn't going to know how to converse with you.
• On his end, if he's bored with you he ought to just tell you. But maybe he's trying to figure out how to say this already.

He picked you up, you immediately shut down (though you may not know it) hanging out by saying everywhere is closed. So he probably thought you only called him to be your free uber home.

I really like your response. He doesn’t live in my city and was visiting friends. He knows my schedule so said he’d pick me up from work. It was 11pm. I mentioned there were Arabian coffee places open but just out on the street so maybe he didn’t like the idea. We’ve been talking for a month and it was going well. I waited two days and messaged him today. He replied straight away and apologised again for not messaging for sometime. He said this busy is busy and asked how my day was

I also said that I genuinely asked because I was confused. Now that he told me (whether it’s true or not) I said I understand the situation and tried to show a bit empathy and tried to give him a warm reply

I don’t know if you’re aware of how passive aggressive this sounds. Here’s the thing, it doesn’t matter if he pinky swore he’d tell you if things aren’t working out, the truth of the matter is he probably won’t give you that closure, a lot of people don’t want to have that conversation, cause confrontation and instead find ghosting easier, whether it’s gradual or all at once. You already see the signs that this dude is losing interest, the writing is on the wall, so why not fall back as well? The only reason I can figure you’re still trying is that you really like him and want things to progress, but if he’s not putting in the effort then it can’t be all on you to do so.
