Why would a guy keeps saying mean things to you?

I have one of my guy friends who keeps teasing me sometimes in funny ways, but other times he would say mean things to me, someday I was teasing him in friendly manner then he said “you can’t bother me cuz you’re not important to me”

To possibilities, he's young and stupid and doesn't know how to flirt. Second he's an asshole. Either why throw that one back and let him grow a bit.
