Why would a guy say you're mean to him when you aren't?

Why would a guy say you're "always mean" to him when you're actually always nice to him? Why would he joke that you're "mean" to him when all the two of you do is joke with each other/act playful? Same guy also joked I was "hurting his feelings" when I joked about not wanting to see him. He was talking about us seeing each other next time and I jokingly said no and that one day was enough of him for me (I was honestly just kidding and my tone of voice indicated that - I wasn't being mean at all).

So why would he tease me like that and joke about me being mean to him and hurting his feelings when I wasn't actually doing anything negative?

He thinks you should actually be falling over him, falling in love with him, and thinks he's owed you falling on his dick.

He's trying to gaslight you into pity dating him.

Unless you genuinely think he's a good guy worthy of working through his issues to maintain a friendship, cut contact and run.

He also jokingly tells other people I'm "mean" to him or "give him a hard time". He will also say things like "don't miss me too much" when he leaves. He stares me down constantly too. I can be doing whatever and will look up or over to see him just staring at me. No smile or anything - just majorly staring me down. I always break eye contact and go back to whatever I was doing before.

Could be he's trying to be funny if the two of you are always joking.
