Is it common to act mean to a guy we like?

I've known him since junior high and we're now in 11th grade. During the 2 years of middle school, I would sometimes made ugly drawings of him, give him an attitude if he asked me any question, say loudly ''ewww, get away from me germ boy'' and at times play pranks on him in front of the class. However, to not make it that obvious, at times (fewer times though) I would be nicer and let him copy some of my exams whenever I could.

We're on better terms as friends now. We're older now and more mature. Nope, neither of mentioned anything about those times. Though he doesn't know how I've always felt. It's my secret only my best friend knows. Truth be told, I'm still shy about it telling him that. I was embarrassed at the time... that's why I would act mean at the time.

I pretended not to like him and be grossed out by making those bad remarks so no one would know, so that he wouldn't know.

The only bad nickname I ever got was from a girl who, at least a year later, pretty much confessed to me.

In an unusual moment of coolness for my younger, less cool self, I told her no and then went out with her best friend instead.

For whatever it is worth, had she been a little more obvious and forward about what she wanted I would likely have been open to dating her. She was both smart and pretty. Not so certain about the rest as we never became more than casual acquaintances.

It is common. When I was 16 a beautiful girl in my class told me she fancied me. I also fancied her but acted like a moron towards her and drove away and actually managed to make her hate me. All this time I was infatuated with her but for some reason I still don’t understand I just went brainless around her. This was 29 years ago and I still think about her. Talk to your boy and start dating. Don’t mess it up like me

Yeah I'm more mature by now and I was in 8th grade the last time I was mean towards him. I haven't acted like that in HS.

I didn’t get the chance. She moved school the next year because of me, then she went to university and our paths never crossed again

I think she got married because she’s not on facebook with her name. I don’t know where she lives or what she does. I know nothing about what happened to her after she left school

Wow what a sad story. If you know anyone of your friends that knows her, maybe they can tell her or something. I won't be making that mistake with my now friend. We're cool by now but I think I'll get my best friend to tell him my secret. I think as a girl, it's rare for us to make the first move.

I was just embarrassed about the whole class finding out and getting laughed at for that or afraid of getting rejected. It's rare for us to come forward to make the first move and tell him directly ''I like you''. I still haven't had the guts to do that. I'm shy about it.

Just keep doing what you're doing, but try to interact with him when he's by himself, if possible.
