If you find that people, not just men, are nervous around you, then simply introduce yourself to them and try to crack a (clean) joke. That should help relaxing the atmosphere and you will notice that people feel much more at ease if you put yourself to their level.

Some people are uneasy addressing others because they feel that their approach will be misunderstood. Only approach those people that seem uneasy if you are certain that they are either too shy or nervous and never just because you feel like it. They may perceive you as rude or wanting something, mainly if you are a woman.

But again, as a woman, always be cautious about approaching men. Your intentions may be misunderstood.
