You don't need a date to get to know someone, and in fact dates suck at that task.
hanging out is better for getting to know someone, and most men know this.

Wanting a date is usually a red flag that the woman just wants free food/money, and is just using the guy. So if we attempt to hang out with you, but you insist on going on dates, its our cue to abort the relationship progresss and look elsewhere.

Doesn't matter what your preferred way is if you don't mention it. In either case, dates are useless at getting to know someone, you want to hang out alone for that. No guy is going to spill any honest, detailed info about himself while in a public setting
