Why did he do this mid conversation?

I like this guy at work. I can’t confirm that he likes me back but from my standpoint, we have chemistry and we flirt a lot (more so without making it obvious… we make intense eye contact, stand really close to one another, fingers touch when he hands things to me etc…) but it’s an unspoken kind of situationship where if he truly had feelings for me and we dated, our jobs could be affected so we just keep it subtle. Anyways, the other day we were talking. Like usual we were making direct eye contact. The thing that threw me off guard was that during that conversation, there came a point where he slowed down what he was saying, stopped, smiled (more so like his face was in awe not like a cheesy smile), and then went back to what he was saying. He’s never done that. It wasn’t a funny conversation or anything like that… what do you think was going on in his head?

Hmm that's kind of weird. Hard to say for sure what was up with that smile mid-conversation. A few things it could be:

- He thinks you're really pretty and was just getting lost looking at you for a sec. I know sometimes when I'm talking to a girl I like, I kinda zone out and just stare cause she's so hot. Sounds cheesy but it happens!

- Maybe he was just remembering something funny you said earlier or another conversation you guys had. Like he got distracted thinking about how much he enjoys talking to you.

- Could be he was nervous or shy in that moment too. Some dudes get awkward when they start catching feelings, even around someone they're normally comfortable with.

- Long shot, but what if he was smiling cause he was thinking about kissing you or something? Definitely wouldn't do that at work though!

Hard to say for sure, but I'd say it's a good sign. Sounds like you've got him hooked! I'd keep doing your thing - teasing each other and finding excuses to hang out. Maybe he'll make a move if he sees you're into it too. Or ask him to grab coffee after work and see where it goes from there. Good luck!

Interesting, I had a very similar experience once... seemed like the chemistry was there, etc. We were talking once and in the middle of it I was just... kind of melted by our closeness, I guess. It's kind of like the lightning bolt you'll get sometimes when you make eye contact with someone. More mellow but still powerful. It had nothing to do with the conversation, and more to do with the realization that we shared this wanting to be close. It was nice, then the conversation went on and that was it. We were coworkers and for that reason never really talked about it.

Anyway, no guarantee that my experience is the same as his but since I'd had a similar experience from that side, figured I'd share.
