Not sure what to do?

My work colleague and I went out to the movies together and both told each other we were vibing each other. We're attracted to each other, he has a nickname for me, we spent a bit of time together. We both asked each other what should we do.. the problem is we work together and if things fell a part it would get super awkward. I suggested that we remain friends and he agreed. Since then, he has stopped talking to me, he doesn't sit next to me like he used to, he doesn't message me anymore. When we have a break at the same time, he sits directly in front of me, stares at me sometimes. What do I do? I still really like him, I would be with him if it wasn't for us working together.

Update to this... I told him I liked him, he told me that he didn't have genuine feelings for me and just wanted sex with no strings attached. I'm not looking for that kind of thing in my life. He has completely stopped talking to me and has been quite immature towards me. I'm still kind to him and I also know my worth.

That's a tough situation. Working with someone you like is risky cause like you said, if things go south it could make work real awkward.

I'd maybe try talking to him again, just the two of you. Be straight up, tell him you still have feelings but you're worried about messing up at work. Ask where his head's at now. Maybe reassure him you're not trying to reject him or anything, you just want to be careful.

If he seems interested still, maybe try going really slow. Like keep it casual outside work at first, get coffee or lunch on days off just as friends. Get to know each other better without that work pressure. Then you'll have a better idea if dating could work or if it's better to just be pals.

What you don't wanna do is leave it confused and stressful. Clear the air so at least you're both on the same page, whether that's staying friends or giving a relationship a try very carefully. Just be honest with each other. Hopefully you can work it out in a way you're both comfortable with. Good luck!

It is very dodgy for him because if anything goes wrong you can damage him work wise whilst he can't damage you.

Obviously you are single and might be wanting to marry. I'm not wanting to be rude but a lot of 40's are never marrieds now and I think the situation for you both is different in that case. It is hard enough to find someone you could consider without rejecting him/her because they are a work colleague. Lots of marriages happened through work in the past.

Maybe you could have a mature discussion as to how it could be handled if it didn't work out?

If he has stopped talking to you and isn’t actively trying to engage you in conversation, he’s probably trying to take some distance as well.

Respect his decision and try not to read too much into the staring. Sometimes a glimpse can be interpreted as flirty when it isn’t meant to be. As hard as it is, it would be best to move on, not push and focus on your working relationship and keeping things professional at work.
